Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 4, 2026
This policy covers the Sprekio Chrome extension and the website at sprekio.khaleel.eu. Sprekio does not sell your data, show ads, or use analytics or tracking tools.
What the extension does
On YouTube, the extension reads the captions of the video you are watching so it can show dual subtitles, word translations and a transcript. It does not read your watch history, comments, or any other YouTube data.
On other websites, the extension starts only when you ask it to — by right-clicking a page and choosing "Read with Sprekio", or pressing Alt+Shift+S. It then looks at the visible text on that page to find German sentences, and can show a translation under each sentence, translate a sentence or a selection you choose, or show a word's dictionary translation when you hover it. It does not run on a page, or read anything on it, unless you start it there.
Data we process
- Google account (optional). If you sign in, we receive your Google email address and a user ID through Firebase Authentication. This is used only to keep your saved words in sync between the extension and the website.
- Saved vocabulary. When you save a word, we store the word, its translation, the sentence it appeared in, your review progress, and where it came from — the YouTube video ID and title, or, for a word saved from a website, that page's URL and title. This is stored in Google Firebase (Firestore) under your account and is only readable by you.
- Words and sentences for lookup. To translate a word — on YouTube or on a website — the extension sends the word and the sentence around it to the Sprekio dictionary server (hosted on Cloudflare). These are used to answer the request and are not linked to your account or stored per user. Cloudflare may keep standard short-lived request logs, including IP addresses, for security and abuse prevention.
- Text sent for translation. When YouTube's own subtitle translation is unavailable, the extension sends the video's German subtitle lines to the Sprekio server for translation. On a website, if you translate a sentence, a selection, or a full page, the German text you chose to translate is sent the same way. Either way, translation is done with Cloudflare Workers AI, translated lines are cached so the same line is never translated twice, and the cache, which holds only the translated text itself, is not linked to you or your account.
- Your own AI API keys (optional). If you enter a Gemini or NVIDIA API key, it is stored only on your device (Chrome extension storage). When you request an AI sentence translation, the key and the sentence are passed through the Sprekio server to that provider and are not stored. That provider's own privacy policy applies to the request.
- Settings and cache. Your preferences (subtitle style, position, toggles) and a cache of looked-up words are stored locally on your device.
What we never do
- Sell or rent your data, or share it with advertisers or data brokers.
- Use your data for anything other than providing Sprekio's features.
- Use your data to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes.
Sprekio's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Deleting your data
You can delete any saved word from the extension sidebar or the dashboard at any time. To delete your whole account and all saved words, email [email protected] and it will be removed within 30 days. Removing the extension deletes all locally stored settings, keys and cache.
Children
Sprekio is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their data.
